Shreveport Common
This project involved developing a Vision Plan for a 9 block blighted area adjacent to downtown Shreveport. The area includes important Historical Landmarks such as the Municipal Auditorium, Central Fire Station, 900 block of Texas Avenue and Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Funding for design services was provided through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Our firm provided master planning services and conceptual design for the "Common", a $3.75 million public space which will be the centerpiece for the development. The 9 block development will include first floor retail and office spaces with upper floor residential to create a work/live environment. The public space will include a fountain, sculpture garden, open green space and band shell that will accommodate the surrounding residents, workers and visitors. The Shreveport Regional Arts Council will be located adjacent to the Common in the historic Central Fire Station building and will provide programs that will utilize the space. A national Art Call recently chose finalists to design the adjacent Common Link site that will be a transportation and information link for the area.
